I collected my audience research by creating a survey on http://try.surveymonkey.com/. This enabled me to create a survey consisting of 10 questions relevant to the design and content of my music magazine. Once i had completed this survey I sent it to approximately 20 people in an e-mail. All of Which were around the age of 17-19 therefore my results will not be very representative. Another criticism of this method is that my research may be unreliable as students may just briefly do the survey and not take much care in doing so. Also demand characteristics may take place as students may feel the pressure to respond in the way the researcher wants them too, therefore creating unreliable data. After receiving 15 responses I decided to create pie charts which would show my results in a simple and understanding way. I achieved this by going on http://www.onlinecharttool.com/ and submitting my data into the relevant boxes. As you can see from above this created various pie charts which show different percentages according to my audience responses.

After doing this research I became a lot clearer on what I would like to achieve, and was sometimes surprised with the responses I received. From the first chart I can conclude that over half of my respondents agreed they would like a balanced mixture of text and pictures in a music magazine.
In my second chart, almost half of my respondents agreed they would be willing to pay between £1.50-£2 for a music magazine, which I was not surprised with as I personally think it is a reasonable price. My third chart I was also not surprised with the responses as I prefer a lot of colour in a magazine as it appeals to me more. A winning 69.2% of my participants also agreed they would enjoy reading a magazine more if it had a lot of colour in it. My fourth chart also shows that a majority of my respondents prefer a magazine to have various fonts. This was one of the most essential questions I wanted to find out the answer too. Mainly because the text and design is the key part to a successful magazine. I was not surprised as to the results for this, as I think young adults prefer to have a variety of texts and pictures etc in order to keep their brain interested and focused. My fifth chart shows that on a whole a lot of my participants tend to read magazines 1-2 times a week, which helped me come to the decision that I am only going to bring my music magazine out every 2 weeks.

My sixth chart shows what other features people would like to see in a music magazine. This question also helped me a lot with my research as I found out the 3 most popular features people would be interested to view were forthcoming events,Interviews with various music bands and artists and photos they wish they never saw. My Seventh Chart identifies what genre of music my audience prefer, with pop and dub step being the preferred. My final chart shows a huge majority of my audience would like to see this music magazine appear on the shelves monthly, which I think is a fair statement as most people tend to buy weekly magazines such as Hello, Ok, Take A Break etc. Doing this research has really influenced my actions I am going to take in order to make this music magazine as succesfull as i can. I am going to take into consideration all of my target audiences responses and try to create a music magazine that appeals to many.
